Automated Digital Marketing Using AI
Digital marketing is one of the biggest challenges for SaaS companies. With so many different channels and ways to market products, it can be difficult to know where to start. If you have a small marketing team or even just one person, it may seem impossible to make a dent. Fortunately, there are some amazing tools that help automate digital marketing tasks. For example, we recently received an email from an automated marketing service. It was apparent the message was automated because of the content formatting – the vendor had scraped website copy or our LinkedIn profile page and embedded certain elements into the message. Note, it may have been wise to review and edit this template before sending — the note was nonsensical and left a negative impression of the company and its AI! Poor example aside, we embrace automated digital marketing using AI properly to deliver better customer experiences.
Today we analyze what went wrong with this particular note and then share some ideas on using AI and automation in your marketing. Done correctly, AI marketing leverages customer data and AI concepts like machine learning to anticipate your customer’s next move and improve the customer journey.
AI Done Incorrectly
Hi XXXXXXXX — I hope you are having a great quarter. It seems you are around the Fort Collins area. Have you been to LLC XXXXXXX on XXXXXXX Drive? I heard it’s nice. We are inviting others from the region to a session below.
I like what you do, and I was impressed when reading about your company. The note is awkward at best. They got our address right, but the adjacent business is totally absurd. Perhaps the comma in their name caused some SQL side effects. It’s not even a business open to the public (but “it’s nice”!). Clearly, the idea of screen scraping has flaws, so this particular vendor may have been wise to run more preliminary testing before sending out blind emails — quality control is your friend, people.
What AI Marketing Can Do
We see four key examples of how artificial intelligence can be used for automated digital marketing.
Understanding User Behavior
The goal of digital marketing is to successfully engage customers online and provide them with valuable content so they will purchase a product or service. Understanding user behavior is key to determining why some campaigns are successful and others aren’t.
Task Automation
You can automate repetitive tasks and give your marketing a digital boost. For example, when someone fills out a survey on your website, you can initiate a series of actions in a sales funnel. Even without AI, automation is powerful, but by layering in even better information, sales can be turbocharged.
Personalization
As digital marketers, we’re always looking for ways to personalize the user experience. The goal is to make users feel like they matter in your marketing campaigns — they’re not just random visitors. Personalization is becoming critical in digital marketing, especially with the rise of chatbots. Chatbots need data about customers to be useful.
Machine Learning
Digital marketing has long relied on data and machine learning to help marketers maximize ROI. Machine learning can help marketers make better decisions and get more accurate results. It analyzes data to find patterns in your customers’ behaviors so you can create targeted campaigns that can be more successful.
The Potential Impact of AI in Digital Marketing
We distill the four capabilities of AI and automation to five main advantages they create.
Putting Marketing Actions in Order
For years, the promise of AI in marketing has been knowing what to do next. What’s the next best product to offer? What content should we send next? What ads are working best for long-term value? By collating data from a variety of sources — social media, digital ads, email campaigns, website traffic — marketers can make better decisions.
Improving Communication
It’s imperative that nothing slips through the cracks. Automation and AI can ensure that regular communication keeps the conversation and opportunity alive. Even a simple “resend to unopened” email campaign pays a dividend. Basic automation delivers value,
Streamlining Work
What if we told you that the efficiency of your digital marketing could be increased up to 10% with AI? This is possible because AI can analyze data and make predictions about what will happen next. You’re performing the right tasks and they’re probably automated too!
Delivering Personalized Offers
Our overarching goal for conversion in digital marketing is to ensure every customer interaction reaches the right person with the right content at the right moment and through the channel most likely to drive action. AI gives us the best chance to do so.
Improving Customer Experience
As technology continues to advance, customers are becoming more and more demanding when it comes to their interactions with brands. AI and automation help us put it all together – we’re showing empathy, delivering personalized insights, solving problems, and doing so faster than ever before.
